Cessna planes grounded Monday, March 3,2008
The Air Transportation Office yesterday ordered the grounding of all Cessna-150 planes in the country following the recent crash in Bulacan where two persons were killed.
The Cessna 150 is a two-seat airplane designed for flight training, touring and personal use, the ATO said.
“All Cessna aircraft in the country are ordered grounded pending the investigation of the trainer plane which crashed in Plaridel, Bulacan where two pilots were killed,” Transportation Secretary Leandro Mendoza said.
Mendoza invited the owner of the ill-fated Cessna, Arnold Amado Sr., to the ATO office for investigation after aviation investigators failed to find the plane’s black box which contains flight information that could shed light on the incident.
The Cessna trainer plane crashed Saturday morning, killing its pilot, Capt. Mike Bernardo and a student pilot, Coshid Mohann, 18, an Indian national.
The two-seater Cessna-150 trainer plane was on its way back to the Plaridel airfield when it crashed somewhere in Barangay Angaya around 10:45 a.m., authorities said.
Most of the 100 Cessna-150 trainer planes in the country are 40 years old. The trainer plane is the third most-produced civilian plane ever, with 23,839 aircraft produced between 1958 and 1962, the ATO said.
